A CD is called a compact disk which is a piece of small plastic disc. It utilizes the trivial disk to store computer data and music via light. They can store a decent amount of data.

The DVD format supports a quality resolution i.e. 720 x 480 (480i). DVD can read that resolution whenever the disc is entered. Hence, DVD has a categorized format for standard resolution. DVD offers two types of resolution one is 720×540 and 720×480 for PAL and NTSC respectively.

Laser Technology

The laser technology is coated on a surface of a disc. So, at the DVD disc, the laser light that is applied is a red laser. Its wavelength is 650 nm which means the laser spot size could be 1100 nm.

Disc Construction

The digital optical disc data storage is composed of many coatings of a layer of plastic, totaling about 1.2 millimeters thick. Each layer is constructed by the use of a plastic material called polycarbonate. The whole process makes small bubbles around the disc that secure spiral data track.

Blu Ray

Storage Capacity

A single layer of Blu Ray offers storage of 25 GB whereas a double-coated layer has the capacity of 50 GB. Often it is utilized to secure high-definition films of several hours with excellent quality.

Image Resolution

Blu Ray was designed to provide high storage capacity with extraordinary resolution. An average blu ray disc offers an impressive resolution of 1920 X 1080. Moreover, it has a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray that can deliver a more striking resolution of 3840 X 2160.

Laser Technology

Unlike DVD, Blu-Ray uses a blue laser. The wavelength of a blue laser is shorter compared to a red laser that is 405 nanometers. The smaller rays create more focus, enable to read information recorded in the form of pits that has 0.15 microns. Smaller pits and beam develops shorter pitch track that makes Blu Ray hold more data.

Disc Construction

Blu-Ray consists of smaller rays that are much closer to each other and thinner as well which makes the data more precise. This is what enables the Blu-Ray disc to store a colossal amount of information. Furthermore, it has more damaging resistance from scratches than DVD.

Conclusion

CD, DVD and Blu Ray all are storage mediums. But all three differ in capacity, storage, and other aspects. CD is an old storing device that can store decent data but has a limitation of securing high-quality videos.

In contrast with it, DVD offers much more feasibility as you can use up to 17 GB along with high resolution.

Blu-Ray is the most recent technology that can store data more than many storage mediums. It could end the worries of storing the facility. Because a massive quantity of 50 GB can be stored in Blu Ray with another feature of 4K Ultra HD resolution.

In last, every storage medium is best with its specification because as the features go high the price would also go high. We see the same scenario in the pc parts used in UK. But it is a truth that in the modern age Blu Ray is most commonly used because of its phenomenal characteristics.
